New Delhi, August 3 A thought-provoking “Shaam-e-Muzakera” on “Right to Education Act” was organized here this evening under the auspices of the Institute of Objective Studies (IOS). Presided over by IOS Secretary General Prof Z M Khan, the Shaam-e-Muzakera proposed constitution of a committee to ponder over the entire act and submit a report to the IOS so that the government and the authorities concerned might be pursued for necessary clarifications and amendments.  More...

The controversial bill on communal violence that was passed by Rajya Sabha in 2005 is yet to become a law. The reason for the delay has been strong objections from human rights and Muslim organizations. The bill kept in pending five years ago was revised in 2009 and then a few cosmetic changes were made. Discussion on Communal Violence Bill

A consultative discussion on The Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill, 2009 (CVP for short) was organized by the Institute of Objective Studies in which legal experts, administrators and academicians participated. After threadbare discussion on the proposed Bill, it was strongly felt by the participants that the Bill, in its present form, is too weak to prevent and control communal violence as it lacks in fixing the accountability of a communal violence on the perpetrators, conspirators and abettors. A general consensus emerged that the Bill should fix direct responsibility on the local administration like, the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and the local SHOs and command responsibility on the politicians and ministers be fixed so that a 2002 Gujarat like situation is averted.  More...

New Delhi, February 3: A major international conference began here today with fanfare to look deeply into the causes of the economic meltdown of 2008-2009 and search for options promising a more stable Indian and global economy. Delegates from the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Sri Lanka, came together to deliberate on the issues.

From the Indian side, half a dozen federal and other ministers (including the chief minister of Haryana bordering the national capital as well as the deputy chairman and speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha) and top bureaucrats were present. Then there were corporate leaders, business gurus, academics specialising in economics, and business and senior media personnel.
