Services of Prof. M. A. Quddus recalled at IOS Condolence Meet
June 11, 2020: A condolence meeting was held at conference hall of the Institute of Objective Studies on June 4, 2020 to mourn the death of the coordinator of the IOS Patna Chapter, Prof. M.A. Quddus. Recalling his association with the IOS, Assistant Secretary General of the Institute, Prof. Haseena Hashia, said that he had been keenly involved in its activities since its inception some 34 years ago. Later on, he made Patna chapter a hub of intellectual activity by organising seminars, symposia, discussions and lectures. Participation of the academia of Patna made the chapter’s activities more meaningful. She observed that Prof. M.A. Quddus was an embodiment of warmth, gentleness and humanity. He endeared himself to his students at Patna University. His tenure as Dean and Principal of erstwhile Commerce College, Patna was marked by several reforms, she added.
In-charge of the Urdu section, Maulana Shah Ajmal Farooq Nadwi, presented a brief life-sketch of Prof. M.A. Quddus and offered dua for his maghfirat and prayed to Allah to grant him a place in Heaven. Prof. Quddus was born on December 7, 1937 in Bihar. He pursued his higher studies at Patna University and joined its commerce faculty as a lecturer. Later he served as reader, professor and head of the department of commerce. He was also of financial advisor, member of the Syndicate and the Senate of Patna University. He is credited to have guided as many as 20 Ph.D. scholars. Besides, more than a hundred students of MBA submitted their dissertation projects under his supervision. His areas of specialisation included management marketing, finance, accounts and auditing. He published research articles in reputed newspapers like the Economic Times and the journals like the Indian Journal of Commerce. He authored control of commercial banks in India and translated De Paula’s Auditing in Urdu. He also produced Lessons in Auditing for Correspondence Course for Patna University. He visited USA, UK and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Describing the death of Prof. M.A. Quddus as a personal loss to him, the Chairman of the IOS, Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam said that his life was devoted to the promotion of education in the community. He ceaselessly worked for the wellbeing of humanity and uplift of Muslim community. It was his cherished wish that Muslims should excel in socio-economic, political and educational fields. Expressing profound grief over the demise of Prof. Quddus, he said that the void created by his death was difficult to fill. In a condolence message, Dr. Alam prayed for his soul seeking heaven for it and conveyed his deep sympathies to his bereaved family. He prayed to Allah to give strength to the family to bear this loss.
Among others the assistant finance secretary, Mohammad Alam and the member of the governing council of the IOS, Ibrahim Alam, members of the staff of the Institute and FANA attended the condolence meet.
